pre-application acknowledgments
Before accessing the application, please ensure you meet the criteria for our program by reading the guidelines below. Submission of your application is an acknowledgment that you have read the criteria and believe that you fall within the stated parameters.
It is important that you submit all the required documents. Incomplete applications will not be evaluated. If you have questions about or during the application process, please reach out to Jeffrey Elam via email or phone at 704.847.4266 ext 108.
Completed applications are scored based on need and the availability of funds. It is important to understand that your application may not be approved. If funds are exhausted, approved applications will be placed on the waiting list. After six (6) months on the waiting list, income information will be updated to ensure you are still eligible for the program.
The following items will be needed to determine eligibility:

completed application (which includes a credit report and background report authorization form for all adults in the household)

copy or photo of government-issued id

most recent 30 days check stubs for all household members (if applicable)

most recent bank statement

social security award letter (retirement, disability, etc.)

homeowner's insurance declaration page
Applicants' total gross income* must fall at or below 80% of the area Median Income Level. Matthews is in the Charlotte-Gastonia-Rock Hill MSA.
Program participants must:

own their property and live in the home that will receive repair renovation assistance

have a clear title to the property or have a legal "life estate"
-
property must be located in Matthews, Mint Hill or the Mecklenburg county side of Stallings
All property taxes must be current
The proposed repair(s) must meet eligibility requirements as outlined in the Greater Matthews Habitat for Humanity Home Repair Program guidelines, as determined by Greater Matthews Habitat.
Once approved, applicants will need to sign a recapture agreement. If the home is sold within 5 years of the completed repair, the cost of the repair must be repaid.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and are based on the availability of funds. Applications can be completed online, by downloading and mailing a paper copy (PO Box 2008, Matthews, NC 28106), or by picking up a paper application from our office.
