Get Ready to Rock the Block!

Updated: Apr 16

Greater Matthews Habitat for Humanity (GMHFH) is thrilled to announce our upcoming "Rock the Block" event on April 19th, 2024, in Mint Hill. This initiative, part of our ongoing effort to preserve local neighborhoods, promises to be a day of significant community engagement and transformation.

"Rock the Block" brings together homeowners, volunteers, and community and corporate sponsors to partake in a series of minor exterior services aimed at enhancing neighborhood aesthetics and livability. Happening each spring and fall, the event for this spring is set to take place in Mint Hill and is in collaboration with the Canopy Housing Foundation, aligning with the annual Realtors® Care Day and the Town of Mint Hill. This partnership underscores our commitment to community unity and sustainable living environments across the Greater Matthews area.

Services Offered

The "Rock the Block" program is meticulously designed to offer valuable services at no cost to the residents of pre-selected neighborhoods. These services include:

  • Painting: Refreshing front doors and shutters to boost curb appeal.

  • Landscaping: Tidying and beautifying gardens and communal spaces.

  • Pressure Washing: Cleaning exteriors to rejuvenate home facades.

  • Lawn Care: Mowing lawns to maintain neat and orderly properties.

  • Gardening: Planting new greenery and spreading mulch (provided by homeowners) to enhance the area's natural beauty.

  • Mailbox Detailing: Adding clear, new numbers to mailboxes, aiding in easy identification and adding a touch of charm.

Impact of Rock the Block

The benefits of "Rock the Block" extend beyond the immediate visual enhancements:

  • Community Safety and Cleanliness: A cleaner neighborhood deters crime and promotes safety.

  • Enhanced Property Values: Improvements and beautification efforts can increase property values, benefiting homeowners financially.

  • Community Unity: Events like these bring residents together, fostering a sense of pride and collective purpose.

  • Quality of Life: A well-maintained neighborhood enhances the daily lives of its residents, making it a more enjoyable place to live.

  • Team Building: This initiative provides an excellent opportunity for team building among neighbors, community groups, and corporate teams.
