President Jimmy Carter’s life was a testament to the power of compassion and service. Through his unwavering commitment to Habitat for Humanity, he and his wife, Rosalynn, showed the world how ordinary people can achieve extraordinary things by working together.
Since partnering with Habitat in 1984, President Carter inspired millions with his hands-on approach. From the first Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project to his countless hours on build sites around the world, he didn’t just advocate for affordable housing—he actively built it. His presence on construction sites, hammer in hand and smile on his face, became a symbol of hope and perseverance.
President Carter’s impact extended far beyond the homes he helped construct. His advocacy elevated Habitat’s mission to a global stage, helping families in need gain access to the stability and dignity that comes with safe, affordable housing. His belief in the power of community was a guiding light, and his legacy will continue to inspire Habitat affiliates, volunteers, and supporters for generations to come.
At Greater Matthews Habitat for Humanity, we are deeply grateful for President Carter’s leadership and the example he set for us all. As we celebrate 35 years of serving our community, we do so with his legacy in our hearts, committed to building a world where everyone has a decent place to live.
Thank you, President Carter, for your vision, your humility, and your hands-on service. You’ve built more than homes—you’ve built hope. Rest in peace, knowing your legacy will endure in every family served and every life touched.
